[Hanoi] Don’t count Monday as a day when you travel in Hanoi!!!!
Today, I met Alex, a friendly American-Taiwanese guy who I knew via CS. We tried to find somewhere to visit and ended up realizing that most of places are closed on Monday.
I would like to put here some practical information about open and close time of some places that you may need to know before arranging the time traveling here.
Every day from 8:30 to 17:30
Closed on Monday and Vietnam New Year
Every day except Monday and Friday.
Hot season (01/04-31/10): 7h30 to 10h30
Cold season (01/11-31/03 next year): 8h-11h
It’s usually closed between September and October for maintenance. This year, it closes from 06 Sept to 05 Nov.
3. Central Sector of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long
Opening time: Every weekday, except Monday and Friday.
Morning: from 8:00 to 11:30
Afternoon: from 13:00 to 16:30
Open hours: 8h-17h (From November to March) and 7h30-18h(the rest of the year)
Closed on Sunday.
(Which you’ll find similar to War remnants museum in Sai Gon)
Open hours: 8h-11h30 and 13h30-16h30
Closed on Monday
6. Army Museum (Where the Flag Tower is located) (or Military History Museum)
Open hours: 8h-11h30 and 13h30-16h30
Closed on Monday and Friday
Open hours: 8h-12h and 13h30-17h
Closed on the first Monday of every month.
What else to see:
– One Pillar pagoda (People usually visit it after or before coming to see Ho Chi Minh mausoleum and Ho Chi Minh museum)
– Truc Bach lake and West lake (just opposite to one another). You can visit Tran Quoc pagoda near there too.
– Ba Dinh square (nothing more than square haha)
– Opera house
– Old House (87 Ma May street, Old Quarter)
– O Quan Truong gate (nothing more than a gate, though)
– Quan Thanh temple (near Truc Bach lake)
– Thang Long water puppet theater (near Hoan Kiem lake)

This is a very expensive addiction. In 2005 I stayed in Hanoi for 3 days. Did you get to see water puppets? It was one of my favorite things to see in Hanoi.
Ha. Thank you so much for reminding me to add Thang Long water puppet theater on the list. I completely forgot it.
Yeah. I did see them, few times, but not in water puppet theater as the tourists usually do. Museum of Ethnology sometimes organizes water puppet showes on some special occasions, and as luck would have it, I’ve watched them few. Really special thing distinguishing Vietnam from other countries. Thanks again. I’d put it to the list now 🙂
